No Time to Die finally in cinemas after Covid-19 disruption and Daniel Craig's record-breaking Netflix deal
30 September 2021 - After the pandemic had postponed the release date for almost two years, the world premiere and release of James Bond No Time to Die finally took place on 28 September 2021 in London, UK.
The November 2019 release was initially postponed to April 2020 after director Danny Boyle stepped away from the movie due to "creative differences" with producer Barbara Broccoli. However, several more postponements then took place, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, in February 2021, 30 September 2021 was announced as the release date. In August 2021, producers announced that the film's release and world premiere would be on 28 September 2021.
Bond films meant for the cinema
Daniel Craig, who has donned the James Bond suit for the last time in No time to Die, was 'greatly relieved' the film was finally being released to cinemas, stating, "we make Bond films for the cinema, and we're here, and I couldn't be happier". Screenplay co-writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the rest of the creative team and singer-songwriters Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell, writers of the Grammy award-winning title sequence song, were all excited for the film's release. The premier had a royal welcome
with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwell, all showing their support. Hollywood royalty Dame Judy Dench, who played the character of M between 1995 and 2012 in the Bond franchise, also showed her support. Craig dedicated the film to frontline workers with a large group invited to the premier to thank them for their ongoing and gruelling work, support, and sacrifice throughout the last 18 months.

No Time to Die reportedly opened in a record-breaking 772 UK and Irish cinemas on 28 September 2021, bring in £5 million in box office figures on the first day. Across the weekend, it became the best pandemic-era opening weekend in 21 countries, including the UK making an estimated $119.1 million in international sales. On top of the backend pay Craig will get based on the box office success of No Time to Die, he earned $25 million as Bond, a hefty increase from the $3 million he made as Bond in
Casino Royal in 2005. However, this increase is nothing compared to his deal with Netflix for two sequels to the 2019 movie Knives Out. Craig is reportedly looking at a $100 million (£73 million) deal after Netflix, the streaming giant, won the rights to two sequels to the murder mystery blockbuster.
Daniel Craig the world's highest paid actor
In a contract that Netflix achieved after outbidding both Amazon and Apple for the movie rights, the £73 million deal has made Craig the world's highest-paid actor. Wage Indicator has compared this £73 million pay to the National Living Wage (NLW) pay for over 23-year-old's in the United Kingdom. The NLW is £8.91 an hour (assuming a working week of 37.5 hours) or £334.13 a
week, compared with £1,402,547.79 a week for Craig. Therefore, it would take just under 81 years for someone on NLW to earn the same as Daniel Craig will make in a week.
