From April 1, 2017 the National Minimum Wage for
- workers aged 25 and over — will rise by 4.2% to £7.50 an hour from £7.20
- for 21 to 24-year-olds will increase by 1.4% or 10p an hour from £6.95 to £7.05,
- the development rate covering 18- to 20-year-olds will rise by 0.9% or 5p an hour from £5.55 to £5.60.
- the rate for 16- and 17-year-olds rises by 1.3% or 5p an hour from £4.00 to £4.05.
Minimum Wages in the UK are determined as follows:
- Adult rate for those above 21 years of age
- Development rate for those between the age of 18-20 years
- Youth Rate for those between the age of 16-17 years (16 year olds must be above the statutory school leaving age, which falls in the 1st summer after the 16th birthday).
- Apprentices Rate for those under the age of 19 or in the first year of training.
