Domestic workers and cleaners in the UK earn almost 32 per cent more than in Germany
A fulltime cleaner or domestic worker in the UK earns $13.6 gross per hour and $8.78 net per hour. It is almost 32 per cent more than in Germany, where an average domestic worker or cleaner is paid $10.34 gross per hour of work. The UK ranks second in the list of highest wages, the first place took Denmark with $14.32 gross hourly wage.
The Paywizard.co.uk team checked earnings of domestic workers and cleaners over the world. The wages are stated in Pounds and US dollars, but the results are not necessarily comparative due to variance in price levels between country. Therefore there are also hourly wages in dollars adjusted by purchasing power parity.
In Tanzania, workers earn only 5 per cent of the UK’s average wage ($0.68 gross), and the wages in Russia are much lower as well, i.e. more than 5 times lower ($2.56). That means that Russian domestic workers can buy 0.6 of Big Mac per hour of work, while in the UK they can buy 2.4 BigMacs. Indonesian workers can afford to buy only 0.2 BigMacs, the most BigMacs (2.7) can buy workers in Denmark.
